Fiona Stanley Hospital is a major tertiary referral centre and one of Western Australia’s flagship public hospitals which provides comprehensive orthopaedic services, including a high-volume hip fracture service, making it the leading centres for neck of femur (NOF) fractures in Australia.
FSH Orthopaedics is equipped to manage a wide range of orthopaedic trauma including:
- High Acuity - Pelvic & Acetabular fractures (with access to subspecialist surgeons), Periprosthetic fractures & complex revisions, open, segmental & intra-articular fractures
- Geriatric – neck of femur fractures, peritrochanteric & subtrochanteric femur fractures
- Foot & Ankle – ankle fractures (particularly those with syndesmotic or talar involvement), LisFranc injuries, calcaneal & pilon fractures.
- Soft tissue & tendon – Multiligamentous knew injuries, acute quadriceps, Achillies & patellar tendon ruptures.
- Upper Limb – shoulder girdle injuries, elbow trauma, distal radius & forearm fractures.

Duration
6 months
Fellowship Goals:
- Gain technical experience and develop competency in performing simple and complex trauma and reconstruction surgery, under supervision.
- Develop high quality skills which will enable ability to lead the operations of a high-volume trauma team on a daily.
- Become a facilitator a gold standard model of leadership & teaching for junior medical staff
As a clinician, the Fellow will adopt responsibility for the provision of evidence-based care to trauma patients both pre and post operatively. They will:
- elicit and document accurate and reproducible examination findings from which research results can be extracted
- Under direct supervision, the Fellow will become competent in performing both simple and complex trauma and reconstruction surgery.
Clinical Experience Access:
- Neck of Femur (NOF) Fractures
- Complex upper/lower limb (ex. Hand Surgery)
- Pelvic & Acetabular Trauma
- Revision Joint Replacement (Trauma/Infection initiated)
Stipend
$90k per 6 month term + on-call allowance, +/-penalties + paid leave + 9% superannuation
Suitability
This Fellowship is suitable for an Orthopaedic surgeon who has recently completed training and is interested in increasing their knowledge and skillset across a range of orthopaedic trauma.

- Enthusiastic, Talented and Motivated Junior Orthopaedic Surgeon with solid base knowledge of Trauma & Reconstruction surgery
- Commitment to and interest in Orthopaedic Research with a willingness to learn complex procedures and achieve surgical independence
- Eligible for Medical Board of Australia Registration
- Completion of Orthopaedic Training/FRACS equivalent in Home Country
- Meets AHPRA English proficiency requirements
